Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to senior citizens, our troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. You can help them spread smiles by drawing or coloring (6) of the artwork pages provided by Color A Smile's website. Please print the pages using the link we provide and bring your completed work to Teen'Scape. We will send all artwork to the Color A Smile organization. You will earn (1) hour of community service for your time.

Data Detox for Teens- Community Service Opportunity

Get a grip on your data! This interactive mission gives you the opportunity to review and reflect on your digital activities. In this exercise you will learn how to assess passwords and make sure they are secure, learn about the digital trails you leave behind when inputting data into apps and internet searches, consider your relationship with technology and how it affects your well being, and learn how to cut through the chaos of misinformation on the internet.

Earn 3 hours of community service by printing and completing the Digital Detox Activity Kit, and writing a brief summary of some of the things you learned that you can pass on to friends and family.

North Shore Animal League "Mutt-i-grees" - Community Service Opportunity

The Mutt-i-grees virtual program is an online video series demonstrating the work of animal shelters and rescue groups. Although filmed at North Shore Animal League America, the series represents the goals of shelters across the country. Please watch each of the 9 videos and write paragraph about what you learned to earn 3.5 hours of community service.

ROY G BIV Poem Stack

Artists know that ROY G BIV stands for the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Search your book shelves, a friends, family members, or the library's book shelves to find a book in each color of the rainbow. Then stack the books in ROY G BIV order to see what book spine poem is formed. Share what each book spine says and your poem below! For extra fun, take a picture of your ROY G BIV poem stack!

Sharing Kindness- Community Service Activities

During this time of social distancing there are ways that you can still support your community and its members. Sharing kindness is the goal of this quest. We have created 4 separate activities for you to earn community service hours. Each activity will earn you 1 hour of service. Hours will be counted and certificates of completion will be mailed to you after August 14th. You do not need to complete all of the activities to earn service credit. Please choose as many as you would like to complete.

Zines for Teens

What is a Zine? A Zine (pronounced "zeen") is a handmade, handwritten publication of self expression made to print and share with others. We would love to see what you can create and also hear what is on your minds! It can be about any subject you can think of, including but not limited to.....art, crafts, pets, travel, music, books, food, sports, and activism. The possibilities are endless!

How does this project connect to community service? We would love to start a Zine library in Teen'Scape but need your publications to begin our collection. A Zine library provides others in the community with original sources of material that document current pop culture. How fun is that?!

If you create and submit a Zine to Teen'Scape you will receive 1.5 hours of community service. Can't wait to see your creations! If you have any questions please call us at 631-757-4200.

For example: “Climb on Board and Read!” We are looking for entries to represent the entire year and not the Summer Reading Club theme. Winners are announced monthly throughout next year as we feature one winner in each of our monthly newsletters, on our Children’s webpage, and printed bookmarks in the Children’s Room. All entrants bookmarks will be displayed in the Library in the Children's Room during the month of September. Bookmark Contest forms are available on the Children's Page of the Library web site and in the Children's Room at the Library. Write the theme of your bookmark in the attached activity and return your entry to the Children's Desk to complete the activity.

Participate in an act of kindness to show you care for others. Write about what you did to complete the activity. Ideas for activities include: write a kind note and send it to someone special. Make a homemade bird feeder and put it in your yard. Make a drawing for someone special. Help your family make dinner or clean up your room without being asked. Donate old clothes or toys to those in need. Have a free lemonade stand. Thank a community helper by making them a card. Or come up with your own idea for a way to be kind to others.
